The NGO LESTARI dedicates its activities to topics related to environmental protection and its sustainable use. We focus primarily on the issue of palm oil industry and its impacts on nature and the lives of people in developing countries. Public is informed about this issue through awareness and educational events within our campaign CHANCE TO CHANGE. This campaign draws attention to the fact that we - the consumers - directly influence events on the other side of the planet. There we also inform about the extinction of rare plant and animal species, poverty, human rights violations, degradation of traditional cultures and we search for possible solutions to these problems.
To address the professional public we organize the first cycle of international conferences on the protection of tropical biodiversity (TBCC), which will be held in autumn 2014 and spring 2015.
The first part of the cycle takes place at the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague, the other
at the University of Medan (Indonesia) and the third part at the University of Chapingo (Mexico).
We also actively support conservation projects directly in Indonesia, which is affected the most by palm industry. Currently, for example, we have been putting together the first prototype UAV (drone) which will soon serve to monitor any illegal activity associated with palm plantations in the field!
